A couple of random things, none of which deserve a full post.

Moving Day In Boston
In case you are new to the city, or just haven’t been paying attention, September 1 is fast approaching and ye best take note. I think roughly 158% of the cities apartment leases turn over on this day, and this year it happens to fall on Labor Day weekend, so it should be a 4 day extravaganza of moving trucks (and moving trucks getting stuck under Storrow Drive Bridges), bed bugs, traffic jams, trash, and madness. Thank god I will be wrapping up my time in Newport for the weekend, and will be far-far away from the nuttiness.

The New England Coast In The Summer
Speaking of Newport, I have to say…is there anything better than the New England coast in the summertime? Having traveled to a fair enough amount of places, I can say with pretty good certainty at this point, that the New England coast during July and August is one of my favorite places on earth. Maybe it is because the summers seem so short, that they take on a higher value around here, but I also think the big cliffs, rocky shores, seafood, boats, harbors, and architecture of the areas also make it just perfect.

If you haven’t spent time on Cape Cod, Block Island, Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard, or been to Newport or Southern Maine in the summer, you are really missing out. There is nothing like it.

Punky Style
A big congrats to Amy (aka “Punky”), who was featured along with her blog punkystyle.com, in this month’s Stuff At Night Magazine. I’ve said it before, and I will say it again - she has done just an amazing job with that site, and is the model (figuratively and literally) that others should look to when attempting to create good, original, genuine niche content on the web. Congrats Amy!

Sort Of Around Part Of The World In 7 Days
I’ve got some travel upcoming at the end of September that will take me from Boston, to London, to Chicago in the span of 7 days, so if there is anyone out there that is interested in trying to meet up for professional or personal reasons in any of those cities, drop me a line. Also planning on being in NYC in November, for the annual AdTech show.

Live Autographs

This is a pretty cool concept…but the roster of available “celebrities” is a bit lacking.

Is College A Waste Of Time?

As someone who did a tour of colleges, but finished at zero of them, I found this article pretty interesting.

Imagine that America had no system of post-secondary education, and you were a member of a task force assigned to create one from scratch. One of your colleagues submits this proposal:

First, we will set up a single goal to represent educational success, which will take four years to achieve no matter what is being taught. We will attach an economic reward to it that seldom has anything to do with what has been learned. We will urge large numbers of people who do not possess adequate ability to try to achieve the goal, wait until they have spent a lot of time and money, and then deny it to them. We will stigmatize everyone who doesn’t meet the goal. We will call the goal a “BA.”

You would conclude that your colleague was cruel, not to say insane. But that’s the system we have in place.

Unbelievable

I’ve been to a lot of Red Sox games over the years, but last night was a tough on to top. I think this beats out the Mother’s Day Miracle, that I witnessed last year, which was previously the most amazing thing I had seen at Fenway.

Side note…why is there no place to get embeddable video highlights of MLB games? What a joke.
